The Town of Ostashkov
The Town of Ostashkov is a region center in the Tver area. The town is perfectly situated on a beautiful peninsula, where many constructions of rather interesting architecture are preserved. The spacious streets of Ostashkov were laid under the general plan of the 18th century.
Original feature of the town is the sensation that it stands directly on the water. In the second century it was named "Second Venice". This sensation is not casual. Ostashkov is located on the southern part of famous Lake Seliger, which represents a whole system of interconnected lakes. On the picturesque coast of Lake Seliger many interesting settlements with architectural monuments of the last centuries are located, and near to the west from Seliger there is a rather remarkable place-the source of the Volga River. A must see if you have the time & a sense of adventure!
